Volunteering at CSNW : Elmfield Hall Pathway

24th March 2020

We have lots of amazing Volunteers at Community Solutions, all of them helping to play a part in our vital work and improving the lives of those who need it most. On completetion of their training our Volunteers usually choose one of three pathways to take: People Pathway, Elmfield Hall Pathway or Digital Pathway.

We are always looking for new volunteers to assist us at Elmfield Hall, our grade two listed building in Gatty Park, Accrington. Our building is always busy and we always have a need for more friendly faces to provide a welcoming environment for our visitors. Volunteers undertaking our Elmfield Hall Pathway may carry out duties such as general office administration, reception cover, answering the telephone and assisting with hospitality for meetings, events, training sessions and group activities.

Here?s a little bit about two of our volunteers and what they do at Elmfield Hall:

David has been volunteering with us for the last 4 years. He is part of our volunteer family and has worked in many different roles.

I got involved with Community Solutions after a period of depression and it was the best thing I could have done. I?ve carried out many different roles such as reception cover, driving the mini-bus, helping out with events and even wearing a tuxedo to greet guests at our Visit Me fundraising night at Mr Gatty?s on one occasion!

I?ve now settled in a role working on reception where I have really built my confidence and learnt lots of new skills. I?m usually the first person you see when you enter the building and love meeting lots of new people.

Community Solutions is a fantastic place to work, everyone is approachable and welcoming. I would 100% recommend volunteering here.

Rachel is 32 years old and was born with Cerebral Palsy.

This means she has various physical and learning challenges to overcome daily with the help of carers and her wheelchair.

I have always felt able to become a productive member of society, and the workforce, but was very rarely given the chance to prove myself. In August 2016 I was made aware of the services and opportunities Community Solutions offers to members of our community and had a meeting with Mary.

We spoke about many things including the skills I had and what I would like to achieve with Community Solutions, together we decided I would best place at work on the Reception.

I work here on average 4 hours a week with my main duties being to answer the phone, signing visitors in and out, offering information and support where possible and in general providing a friendly face to some Participants who may not have seen anyone else all week.

My confidence and self-esteem have come on leaps and bounds in the last 3 and half years thanks to chances and the friendships CSNW has given to me. I am very excited to see what the future brings as both me and my coordinator Louis believe that with a bit more skills building, I am capable of paid Employment.

Thank you, Community Solutions, for giving me a purpose, a wider circle of friends and making me feel useful.

We value all of our volunteers and provide all the necessary training and support to enable you to effectively carry out your role. Opportunities exist for people over 18, whether you are working, unemployed, retired or studying. It does not matter how much time you have to offer, you can volunteer as little as an hour a month, up to 35 hours per week.

If you would like to volunteer please ring in on 01254 460080 or email us at info@csnw.co.uk for more information.
