Volunteering With Us – John

18th April 2020

Hi, I?m John and I volunteer at Community Solutions as a long term befriender to three older adults and I?m also involved with the weekly Men?s Group and Drop In Assist.

It was my wife, a mental health nurse practitioner, who suggested that I think about volunteering 3 years ago. She felt that I had a lot to offer in a volunteer capacity and suggested I call into CSNW in Gatty Park. So I did and fortuitously spoke with Craig Clark. Within a few weeks my references, DBS check and volunteer training were completed and since then I have been part of the team.

I have also attended numerous and valuable training on a range of subjects including Safeguarding, Dementia Awareness, Modern Day Slavery and supporting participants with advice/guidance on welfare benefits. More recently because of government advice during the current Coronavirus pandemic, I am now a telephone befriender to my three regular participants plus one other gentleman to whom I have been assigned after several meetings with him previously.

I love my volunteering roles with CSNW. I feel fulfilled and enriched and the staff working there are dedicated and highly professional people who are very supportive. I feel part of a feel-good social support family and I would certainly recommend volunteering to anyone especially with CSNW. The in house cafe is pretty amazing too!

Stay safe – John
