Francesca's story

May 17, 2024

Francesca's journey with Community Solutions has helped her overcome significant challenges, including recovering from trauma and building independence, with the support of tailored therapy and community engagement.

Francesca, who has autism, faced a challenging time after dropping out of university due to a traumatic experience. Isolated and struggling to find effective support, she sought therapy elsewhere but found it unhelpful and experienced delays in accessing appropriate autism services. "Got my independence back" Francesca was referred to Community Solutions by Lancashire Women and initially received employability support from Aimee, helping her secure a volunteer position in Rochdale. This was a turning point, leading to her enrollment in Lancashire Adult Learning courses, including an understanding of Autism Level 2. Crucially, Francesca began therapy with Community Solutions counselor Elaine, who provided routine support and PTSD therapy, which Francesca identified as a significant factor in her recovery. "Helped me get back on my feet" Today, Francesca is an active participant in the Lego and games social group at Community Solutions. Having completed her volunteer training, she is set to assist in the games group and has expressed interest in contributing to other areas, such as photography at events like the garden party and summer fair. Through the support of Community Solutions, Francesca has regained her independence, from using public transport to attending social events, including a recent bowling night with new friends. "Wonderful to be surrounded by similar people" Francesca's journey highlights the positive impact of tailored support and community engagement, showcasing her resilience and growth towards a more independent and fulfilling life.
